It was de- ' cided to assemble the Seddon Shield , team for a photograph to be taken ' in their togs, at Rose's studio at 2 p.m'. next Saturday. A motion that letters of welcome be sent to A. Dunn. F. Powick and P. Ahern, ail ' of whom have returned from service overseas, was passed. it was decided to hold the final meeting tor the season next Saturday night. At Waimangaroa, on Saturday, ‘ Ngakawau defeated United by ,11 points to nil, winning both the Albion and the Ambury Cups. Thus Ngakawau are holders of all three trophies this season, having previously won the Buller Rugby Union Championship Shield. Tennis: Fine weather, excellent courts, a spacious new pavilion, and a large attendance of members and visitors, assured the success of the official opening of the season at St. John’s Tennis Club on Saturday. Among the visitors were players from sister clubs, representatives of the Borough Council and a large number of spectators.’ After he had been introduced by Mr. W. Lambert, the President of the Club,, Mr. u. Aitken, welcomed the Mayor, Mr. J. M. Robertson Cr C. R. Howard, the Town Clerk, Mr. A. Taylor, other visitors and new members. He thanked the Borough and County Councils for their assistance in renovating the courts and paid special iripute to the County Engineer-Clerk, Mr. C. F. Schadick, who had been instrumental in getting the work done. He concluded with the hope that the Club would soon be able to welcome back those of its members who were serving overseas. rhe Mayor, in declaring the season ollicial'y open, said the Club itself had done quitp a lot towards the securing of its new courts and pavilion, which were indeed a credit to Westport. Mr. Robertson concluded by wishing the Club a successful season. The President of th e Westport Club, Mr. H. Lockey, expressed his pleasure at being .present. He referred to the new pavilion as tne finest on the Coast, and paid a tribute to the excellence of the courts. Mr H. Baird. President of the Bul-ler-Lawn Tennis Association and President of the Denniston Club, as sociated himself with the other speakers as regards the courts and pavilion. He also paid tribute to the work of Mr. Schadick who. he said, had done a lot to put tennis on its feet in th e county. He thought that the Association should show some recognition of Mr. Schadick’s services. After the opening, the lady members entertained the guests to a delicious afternoon tea. After alternoon tea the opening day Yankee Tournament was continued and resulted in a win for F. Foote (Westport) and Mrs. Baird (Denniston) over J. Tanne r (St. John’s) and Miss K. Carey (St. John’s). At night the Club held a very successful dance m the Friendly Societies’ Hall. Mr. Joe Rose was M.C, and Mrs. Cmtis’s Orchestra provided the inusica accompaniments The Westport Golf Club’s Ladles’ Championships, junior, intermediate and senior, were finalised yesterday in beautiful weather conditions. Misses H. Risk and J. Robertson, th_ finalists for the Senior Championsnip (36 holes), provided interesting golL At one stage Miss Risk was 4 up on her opponent, but the West Coast champion_reduced the lead.. Miss Risk, however, held on to win 2 up and 1. In the intermediate, _M ISS H. Hodgson won from Miss J. Marr lup on the 19th. Miss F. MacKenzie won the junior from Miss D. Duncan. 1 up on the 18th . Hockey; A keen interest was taken in the ladies’ hockey match at Waimangaroa between Countrv (holders of tho Carmine Shield) and Karamea.. After

a great game, in which Country led, out were called upon to make a supreme effort in the closing stages to prevent Karamea from securing c draw. Country won by five goals u four.
