Tracey, of the Armed Forces Appeal Board, left last evening on return to Christchurch Messrs W. Service, Senior Inspector of Schools for the District, R. A. Dickie and J. Hawk, Inspectors, left last evening on return to Christchurch. The wedding was solemnised at Christchurch on Monday of Miss; Ivy Hales, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs L. Hales. Preston Road, and Graham Strack, eldest son of Mr and Mrs. C. G. Strack, of Nelson. Mr. G. Kennedy, who leaves today for Burnham Camp for the duration of the war, was farewelled recently by the Celtic Football Club, being presented with a fountain pen and an eversharp pencil. Mr W. B. Russell, manager of tne Union Bank. Grevmouth. leaves next week on transfer 'to Christchurch. Mr W. O. Mr William Abbott Weeks. Maxwells Dine. Manawatu, yesterday attained his one hundredth birthday. Mr Weeks came to New Zealand from Devonshire in 1866. and In his earlier years, was engage? in railway construction in the South Island, and later was road contracting in the Manawatu district. He retains a lively mind, and good hearing, but became blind a year ago. The death occurred yesterday morning at the Westland Hospital, at the age of 52 years, of Mrs Martha Katrna Martin, wife of Mr L. F. Martin. Deceased, who was a daughter of the late Mr W. Pascoe, of Hokitika, leaves a family of three sons, and is 'also survived by one brother. Mr R. Pascoe. Christchurch, and four sisters. Mesdames S. Wilson and F. Mattson (Hokitika), Spencer (Christchurch), and T. Bonnetti. (Hawera) The death occurred vesterdav of a well-known and esteemed resident of Three Mile. Hokitika. Mrs Caroline Ackers, wife of Mr John Ackers. Besides her husband, she leaves a famffv of one son. and four daughters. Mesdames R. Heslon and RBryce (Greymouth), H. Henderson (Christchurch). and Miss Agnes Ackers (Three Mile). She is also survived bv_ her father. Mr John Muir TThree Mile), and by one brother and three sisters. The funeral takes place this afternoon at 2.30 o’clock The residents of Charleston. Brighton and Punakaiki, gathered on Thursday evening at the school at Charleston to farewell Mr. T. Reid, who has been stationed by the Public Works Department in the district for the past ten years .as surfaceman, and who has been transferred in a similar capacity to South Westland. Residents and workmates showed their appreciatidn of his services and citizenship by presenting Mr. Reid with a handsome brush and comb, and a well filled envelope. Mr. J. Rodgers (Union Secretary), in making the presentation, and extending the best wishes to the recipient, said that the residents generally, and Messrs Gibbs and Newman’s Motors, with friends, had very willingly joined in the presentation. Mr. Reid feelingly thanked the donors for their valuable gift. Dancing was carried on till the early hours, Messrs Fischer Bros, supplying the music, and the floor was in the capable charge of Mr. L. Mitchell as M.C The singing of “He’s a JollyGood Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne," brought a very pleasant gathering to a close.
