WEST pOAST UNION. Mr J? Guy presided at the weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening, when there were also present: Messrs M. Olsen, r. Eggleton, T. Mclntosh, T. O’Donnell, A. M. Jamieson and O. McLean (secretary). The Westland Sub-Union asked that a date be fixed for the Graham Wise Cup, when Ruatapu would play Magpies. The Sub-Union also reported on the Air Force match. The chairman said that the SubUnion had not forwarded a financial statement. The Union had agreed to provide £l5 towards the cost of fares which left the Sub-Unicn to find only about £7. That was the extent of the Union’s obligation, as the gate had been £l7. Mr Olsen said if the Union did not assist. Hokitika people might have tp find their guarantees. ' The chairman said that the Union had obligations which were to be mqt out of the Seddon Shield gates.
Mr Olsen said the Union depended largely on Hokitika players and should assist. The chairman said the matter should be held over for a fuller meeting. Mr O’Donnell moved that the SubUnion be asked for a financial statement of the match, for the next meeting, Mr Mclntosh seconding the motion, which was carried. The balance-sheet of the BullerCoast Seddon Shield match, showing a balance of £209 Ils 4d, was approved, and it was decided to forward a cheque for £lO4 15s 8d to the Buller Union. The Union’s credit balance was shown at £BB 4s 2d. It was decided to play the Graham Wise Cun match at Kumara on Saturday next, but that in view of the Union’s decision to play no championship or trophy matches, that the cup be not at stake. Mr Olsen briefly reported on the West Coast team and stated that P. Gilmour suffered a shoulder injury, whilst R. King received a back injury and L. Sweetman had collapsed after the game. He suggested that the Union express its appreciation of the manner in which the team had worked together and for their loyalty to the Union. He had been associated with many teams and had not met a better band of chaps, both on and of! the field. The custodian (Mr C. Russell) was also deserving of the Union’s thanks for the manner in which he had looked after the Union’s jerseys during the season. Mr O’Donnell, local manager ol the Buller team, also made a brief report. , , ... It was decided to forward a letter of congratulation to the Buller Union and to compliment them on the behaviour of the team whilst in Greymouth , , .. Mr F. Saunders reported on the third grade representative match, the report being received, and it was decided to congratulate both teams on their display. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. Se n i o r • United v.
