FATAL FIRE

FARM WORKER THE VICTIM DUNEDIN, July 27. A fire which broke out about 8 o’clock this morning in a hut on the farm .of Mr F. J. Townsend, Merino Downs, resulted in the death of an elderly man named Frederick Robert Cullimore, who was employed on the farm. Cullimore was last seen alive about 9 o’clock last evening, when he visited the residence of the farm manager, Mr J. A. Robertson. This morning Mr Robertson saw smoke issuing from the hut, and on opening the door, was met bv a burst of flame. He succeeding in getting to Cullimore, and drav^ 1 him outside, but an examination nf h’c body disclosed that life was extinct. Cullimore, who was about 60 ’’ears of age, was, it is believed, a single man, and it is understood that he has a brother residing in the Oamaru district. The origin of the fire is unknown, but it is suo-o’ested that the deceased may have been smoking in bed.
