REMUERA SEAT
REPLY TO MR ENDEAN.
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, July 23. Replying to Mr Endean’s statement, the Chairman of the Remuera; Electoral Committee, Mr T. Clifton Webb, said to-day: The broad pnn-1 ciple actuating the committee is the, democratic one that the eletcors of a i constituency have a perfect right! from time to time to review the can-! didature of the sitting member, ’ll they feel that there is substantial desire for a change. I “If this right is not conceded,” said Mr Webb, “it means that the sit- 1 ting member has a perpetual mort-1 gage, so to speak, over the seat. This might be summed up in the phrase,, once a member, always a member.! That there is a widespread desire for| a change, or at least for the opportunity of reviewing the party candi-| dature, is beyond doubt, and the) committee in obtaining the right to ■ call for nominations afresh is only! giving expression to that widespread desire. Every step taken by Mr L. K. Munro, until recently chairman oi: the committee, was with the approval of the committee. Mr Endean’s allegation of bias is entirely without foundation.”
