REEFTON NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent) REEFTON, July 17. The weather for the past days has been exceedingly cold, frosty in the morning, with fog on the hills all day, and a consequent lack of sunshin 0. The receipt of £7 from the Matron of the Reefton Hospital and start, is acknowledged by the Patriotic Committee, the donors being as follows: £1 each, Matron Kane and Sister McEwin; 10s each, Dr. Brockenshire, Nurses Hughes and Hepburii Mrs. Cusack and Mr. T. Williams; 10s fad, Mr. J. Eager; 6s, Miss Jean Cochrane; 5s each, Nurses M. Blackaader, Foster, Rodgers, K. Blackadder Heslop; 3s each, Nurse Hood, Miss Nola Fensom; 2s 6d, Miss Mary Story. The Patriotic Committee is working hard for a grand mil which is to be held in the Gymnasium Hall on Friday and Saturday, August Ist. and 2nd. Organisations in town and country districts will all co-operate in this drive, and reports to hand indicate that the result will be most satisfactory- Any person washing to assist with donations of goods for stalls should actvise local members of the coninn tee, who will acknowledge them through the usual channels. Efforts of the Businessmens Association to secure improvement m footpaths in Reefton, are being slowly rewarded. " Two or three sections i of Broadway have received attention , and County workmen are busy pre- i paring a section of the footpath in , lower Broadway, near the police station corner, preparatory to the laying of concrete blocks. It is to be hoped that the County Council will continue these improvements. The Inangahua Rugby League has had its challenge for the Northern Union Cup, accepted by the West Coast League, and the match will be played at Greymouth on August 17th. In the Massetti Cup match, played at Reefton a few weeks ago, West Coast outclassed Inangjahua, I beating them by 48 points to 13. However, the Inangahua selectors are confident of now' putting out a 1 team which will give Coast a' gbod I game for Cup. Rumours are prevalent that quite a few players are coming out of retirement to assist the team. A Town v. Country match is to be played at Reefton on August 3rd and supporters will no doubt be 'keen to witness the material placed before the selectors. This Town v. Country match is being played as a benefit for the Inangahua County Patriotic Fund. Old time Reefton footballers are recalled in photos which Mr. W.
