GREY HOSPITAL
Building Extensions NEW WING REQUIRED Due probably to the coming into force of the hospital sections of tne Social Security Act, extensions are planned at the Grey Hospital to conform to the requirements of the Health Department as to possible demands fo r additional accommodation, and another new wing will probably be constructed in the near future, according to the chairman of the Grey Hospital Board (Mr J. Mulcare). Mr Mulcare’s statement followed a conference of members of the board and the Director, Division of Hospitals, Health Department, Dr. R. A. Shore, who visited Greymouth this week. “The Health Department is to send t 0 Greymouth a superintending architect, who will go into the whole question of extensions, and will make approximate estimates,” said Mr Mulcare. “These estimates will cover 'the cost of additions which, in the opinion of the Health Department, are essential. The architect will then meet the Board, at a special meeting, and the budget for next year will be discussed. There is no actual conflict of opinion with the Department, but, at the same time, there are items to be provided which the Board regards <is urgent. On the other hand, the Department is hot taking the same view of immediate necessities, but is working on a longrange basis. The whole matter will be discussed at the special meeting, and an effort will be made to draw up a schedule of requirements, classified as urgent or otherwise. After the superintending architect returns to Wellington, he will meet other experts of the Department, and they will go into the whole question.”
