Mr Roy Muir, Ashburton, is on a visit to Greymouth. Mr D Darby leaves this morning for Christchurch. Rev. Father Madden left yesterday on return to Hawarden. Rev. Father D. Moore, S.M., left yesterday morning for Wellington.

Messrs J. Unwin, W. S'. McCiymont and S'. W. Trotter returned yesterday from Wellington. Miss S. Keating left yesterday for Christchurch, where she will take up residence. Mr W. Rsddington left yesterday on a holiday visit to Christchurch and Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ewan, left on return to Addington by yesterday’s express after spending a holiday visiting friends in South Westland. The funeral of the late J,hn Blocksage took place yesterday morning at the Karoro Cemetery. Rev. K. G. Aubrey conducted the services at Sampson’s Chapel and at the graveside. Mr R. G. May, Chief Postmaster, Auckland, and formerly of Greymouth. retires to-day on superannuation, having completed 40 years’ ser- „ vice in the- Post and Telegraph Department. Mr C. Clark, Chief Postmaster, Hamilton, will succeed him. The results of the triennial election of the elective members of the Government Railways Superannuation Fund Board, gazetted last night, are as follows:—Mr J'. W. Shepherd, representative of the First Division in the North Island (elected unopposed), Mr J. S. Roscoe, representative of the First Division in the South Island (re-elected unopposed), Messrs S. J. Gaspar, Jacob Elliott and T. H. Terry, representatives of the Second Division. Mr Gaspar secured 2,495 votes, Mr Elliott 1,942 and Mr Terry 1.790. An announcement that the Government has secured the services of Dr. F. C. Soper, Professor of Chem I istiy at Otago University,. to act as chemical adviser on munitions was made last night by the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Professor Soper will be attached to the Department of Scientific Research. The Government, said the Minister, regarded it as allimportant to have the best scientific assistance possible at the' present time when it was actively pursuing a definite policy in regard to thU manufacture of munitions.- —Press Assn.

A Rugby message states the British Minister for Labour and National Service, Mr Bevin, has appointed women’s consultative committee to advise him on questions affecting the recruiting and registration of women, and the best methods of securing their service's for the war effort. The committee consists of Miss Dorothy Elliott, Mrs Walter Elliott, Miss Florence Hancock, the Countess of Limerick, Dr. Edith Summerville, Miss Mary Sutherland and Miss Irene Ward. Members of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force are now engaged in twenty-five trades which formerlv were only followed by men, including wireless telegraphy operators, balloon fabric workers, sparking plug testers, aircraft hands and dental clerk orderlies.

The death occurred suddenly last evening at her residence, of Mrs Honora Catherine McDonald, wife °f Mr Michael McDonald, and one of the best known and most respected residents of Taylorville. Tn e late Mrs McDonald, who had been for the past year in failing hca'.th, was 62 years of age, and a native of Melbourne. She came to the Brunner district 47 years ago, and had ever since' resided there. She leaves, besides her husband, a family .of four sons and three daughters, the sons being William and John (Wanganui),: Cornelius (Napier), and Michael (Greymouth), while the daughters are Mesdames A. Greener (Westport) and A. Crawford (Taylorville), and Miss Eileen McDonald (Taylorville). She- is also survived by two brothers, Mr David Kennedy (Taylorville), and Mr John Kennedy (Wellington). The funeral takes place to-morrow morning, leaving St. Patrick’s Church, after Requiem Mass, for Karoro Cemetery at 10 o’clock.
