Wins Championship Singles TOURNAMENT ENDS TO-DAY The West Coast croquet tournament, which has been in progress tor the past week will conclude to-day. Tne visitors and local players nave spent an enjoyable time and with the ideal ueather prevailing and the greens in perfect order, the play has been of a very high standard. 2he ckampionshir singles was decider; yesterday afternoon, the winner at the title temg Lieut.-Col. Beamish, of Christchurch, who defeated Mrs Whibley, of the Makura Club. Lieut.Col Beamish has not been very long in New Zealand, having only arrived from England in November. Prim to coming to Greymouth he won the Canterbury open championship early this month. There was a good crowd of on 'cokers to witness the final and they gave the winner an ovation so well deserved for play that has been of such, a high calibre Throughout the tournament. Several ~,ames have tn he decided to-day, and the tournament will conclude this evening with the presentation of trophies. The results of play yesterday are as follows:—

HANDICAP SINGLES (Over six bisques) ' Mrs Hill (Runanga) (7) defeated ’ Mrs Shannon (Makura) (10A) 26/15. ■ Semi-final: Mrs Sligo (Makura) defeated Mrs i Bring (Makura) 26/11. : HANDICAP DOUBLES. , First Round: Mesdames Howard (6) and Braith- , waite (7) (Runanga) defeated Mes- . dames Mercer (4) and Lawn <9> . (Makura) 26/15. Second Round: Mesdames Ibbotton (25) (Christchurch) and Sligo (11) (Makura) defeated Mesdames Erickson (7) and Wilson (6) (Runanga) 26/18. Mesdames Howard and Braithwaite defeated Mesdames McKay (4) (Makura) and Kernahan (35) (Christchurch) 26/24. CHAMPIONSHIP SINGLES Final: Two games were played, an outright win being scored by Lieut.-Col. Beamish (Christchurch) who defeated Mrs Whibley (Makura) 26/18 and 26/12. CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Second Round: Mesdames Mercer and Walmsley defeated Mesdames Whibley and E. Warnes 26/14. Lieut.-Col. Beamish and Mrs E. Moss defeated Mesdames Howard and Braithwaite 26/8. Semi-final: Mesdames J.
