Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Hughes, have returned from a visit to Kaikoura. The Postmaster, Mr C. W. Browne, left yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr. G. W. Jenkins, Public Trust Office, Greymouth, has received notice of this transfer to Wanganui. Leading Aircraftsman J. Gough, left yesterday on return to Taieri Aerodrome, Dunedin. Miss K. Fauth, of the Public Trust Office, Greymouth, left yesterday on on transfer to Waipukurau. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Blocksage, and Miss J. Blocksage, have returned from Christchurch. The death of Mr. James Nantele, aged 74 years, honorary Government Astronomer, is announced in a [ Sydney cablegram. The death has been announced from Sydney of Jim Barron, one of Australia’s greatest boxers of the nineties. He was in his eightieth year. A London cable states that Sir W. Citrine, Secretary of the British Trades’ Union Congress, who has been on a visit to the United States, has returned to London. Mrs. F. Debenham, of Puketahi Street, a resident of Greymouth for many years, left by last evening’s rail car for Christchurch, where she will in future reside.
Mr G. A. Hansen, who contested the Pahiatua ' seat at the last General Election in Labour interests, has again been chosen as Labour’s candidate for Pahiatua at the next elections.
A cable from Vichy, France, states that the death has occurred of M. Cesar Campinchi, a French barrister and politician. He was Minister of Marine in the Hautemps’ Cabinet in 1937.

The death has occurred at Auckland of Mr Alfred Hammond, formerly Chief Detective Hammond, who joined the Police Force in 1895 in Wellington. He accompanied King George V and Queen Mary when they toured the Dominion as the Duke and Duchess of York. He was transferred to the Detective Office at Auckland in 1912, remaining there for 20 years.
