Mr and Mrs A. Blocksage left yesterday on a holiday visit to Cnlistchurch and Timaru.
Mr W. G. Eadie, of Greymoutn. yesterday left for Burnham Camp, to join the Fifth Reinforcement of ui? N.Z.E.F.
Miss J. Shierlaw, officer-in-charge of the Railways Bookstall at Greymouth, who left yesterday on transfer to Invercargill, will be replaced by Miss M. B. Smart.
Pilot Officer Basil Ivan Clausen, Royal New Zealand Air Force, is missing following an aircraft accident, according to an official announcement. His mother is Mrs M. Clausen, Palmerston North.
The death has been announced from Charleston (U.S.A.) of Countess Russell, at the age of 76 years, xiie Countess wrote many books, amongst which was “Elizabeth and Her German Garden.”
Passengers by yesterday’s express to Christchurch included: Mr H. Liardet, Mr M. J. Gallagher. Mrs G. H. Russell, Mrs J. Ogilvie, Misses L and B. Reid (to Wellington), Mr P. P. Geddes (to Lyttelton), Captain 77. D. Iles (to Havelock North).
Mr A. P. Kennedy, for the last two years Headmaster of the Kilbirnie School, Welington, has been appointed Headmaster of the Clyde Quay School, in succession to Mr J. J. Rodgers, who retired on superannuation at the end of last year. $
•Mr W. C. Cunliffe, Stationmaster at Balclutha. has retired on superannuation. He will be succeeded by Mr P. C. Faris, Stationmaster at Clinton. Mr L. S. Allan, Stationmaster at Studholme Junct., will be transferred to Clinton in a similar capacity.

The conference of Parks and Reserves Superintendents has passed a resolution of appreciation in tue service of horticulture in the Dominion, over the past 40 years, of Mr David Tannoch, of Dunedin. On behalf of the Association of Parks and Reserves Superintendents, Mr J. G. McKenzie of Wellington, presented Mr Tannoch with a canteen of cutlery.
