NEW FIFTH COLUMN

People in general are in danger oi becoming Fifth Columnists to their own cause by giving too much thought to its imperfections, states an American writer. There are new friends of democracy to-day who spend altogether too much time on plans for making democracy really worth while after they have managed to save her from Hitler. Of course we must try to build a better world after the present crisis has been surmounted. But by harping too much on the better world to come we are in danger of making people here and there wonder if the present wprld is worth lighting for. After ail, in past, history, when men have fought for home and wife and country they have fought for these things as found. They have never suggested that men should light only for apartments on Park avenue, lor wives like Hollywood queens, a,nd lor a country with a 100 per cent, unblemished record.
