GREY MAIN SCHOOL

MONTHLY MEETING. Mr J. W. Greenslade (chairman) presided at the monthly meeting of the Greymouth Main School on Tuesday evening when there were also present: Messrs H. Smith, A. Dalziel, L. Patterson, G. Batty and C. F. Sl;a,pcott (Secretary!). Apologies were received from Messrs R. Anderson and W. Williams. The chairman said that the shop day had returned approximately £oo with a few books yet to come in. Taking into consideration the circumstances the effort was a good one and would relieve the Committee s financial worries. He thanked the ladies, the parents, Mr G. L. Schaef for their help, also Duncan McLean Ltd. for a donation. Mr G. Batty said that the ladies had done splendid work, not only for the shop, but also on other occasions. The secretary and other members also spoke appreciatively of the work of the ladies. Mr Dalziel said rhe response of the parents was good, over 100 responding to the circular sent out, by sending gifts and over £5 was donated by them. Accounts amounting to £45 5s 4d were passed for payment. The credit balance was shown as £l5 10s lOd, whilst with refunds the balance would be £35.

The chairman, referring to accounts for broken windows, said that the Committee had a right to inquire into breakages. They could not be making calls on people all the time. The acting headmaster (Mr E. G. Pankhurst) advised that the Seddon Medals had been won by Leonard [John Smith, and Melva Hazel Osmers; Watkins Medals: Jack Thompson ana Melva Hazel Osmers, and Scott Memorial Prize, Leonard John Smith. The Chairman: Is there ony headmaster’s report?. The Secretary: No. The Chairman: What is the usual procedure in that respect? The Secretary: We are entitled to get one, I expect. The chairman extended to members of the press seasonal greetings, his good wishes being reciprocated.
