DONATIONS
POWER BOARD DISCUSSION At last evening’s meeting, th e Grey Power Board had discussion on the subject of donations. The Runanga Borough Council appealed: for one towards the relief of families of those stricken in th e recent mine disaster. Mr W. A. Parfitt moved that £25 be grantted. Mr J. B. Kent seconded the motion. Mr A. M. Carroll asked who was to handle the funds. The chairman, Mr J. Unwin, said that a committee had been arranged to look after th e matter. Mr Carroll remarked that appeals of the present kind were usually controlled by the Public Trustee. Mr J. Smeaton said that he supported Mr Carroll’s suggestion. The money should b e , placed to the Public Trustee to handle and apportioned out to the people concerned and when needed. Mr A. H. McKane said that the money was needed urgently. There was £2OOO insurance, which was to be shared among the dependents of the five victims, but thi s could not be secured for a few montns. It was not the dutv of the Board to direct the appeal.
