Mrs E. A. McMillan, who is residing with her daughter, Mrs Earl, 318 High Street, has received word that her son, Neville, was steward on the “Holmwood,” which has been reported missing.
On the recommendation of the Commonwealth. Government the King has approved of Lord Gowrie continuing in office as Governor-Gen-eral of Australia for a further period of a year, from January, according to a Canberra cablegram.

Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, making his first official visit to the West Coast, arrived at Greymouth by car yesterday morning from Westport, accompanied by Laay Batterbee Sir Harry paid a visit or inspection to the Grey River Gold • Dredge at Ikamatua, yesterday aiternoon, and in the evening was accorded a civic reception.
"I think it is in the blood of every Englishman to be thrilled to return to his mother country, and we have that feeling at present,” said the Governor-General, when a civic farewell was tendered to him and Lady Galway at New Plymouth last evening. Lord and Lady Galway, who have been making a farewell tour of Taranaki, were accorded a civic farewell also at Stratford during the day. Lady Galway met members of the Lady Galway Guild and others associated with the work throughout Taranlaki. Lord and Lady Galway return to Wellington this morning. —Press Assn.
