HOME GUARD
STRONG BRUNNER BRANCH [• A largo and enthusiastic meeting ,'of the Brunner Home Guard, presided over by Mr W. Purdy, was held in Dixon’s Hall, Wallsend,’ last night. I Major Kingscote District Commander, addressed the meeting at length, i explaining the objects and the details of the drill of the Guard. In his concluding remarks, he congratulated the Brunner residents on .their wonderful response to the movement, stating that the enrolments compared most favourably with any district he had yet visited. Brigadier-General W. Meldrum, Area Commander, added his congratulations to the meeting. The present enrolments and prospects assured Brunner of at least two platoons, which was a most commendable effort for such a small district.
Full opportunity for discussion was given to all enrolled and prospective members of the Guard to recommend or forward any suggestions which might have a tendency to create a united spirit in the newly-formed Guard.
The following officers were appointed: Company Commander, Mr
W Gutberlet; Platoon Commanders, Messrs G. Smith, J. A. McNeish, R. R. Smith, and R. Scott.
