MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. There were present at last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby Union, Messrs A. A. Adams (chairman), J. Guy, F. Eggleton, T. Mclntosh, J. Steel,, F. Silcock, J. Kyle, F. W. Baillie, T. O’Donnell, W. M. Stewart, and A. M. Jamieson (Acting Secretary). An apology was received from Mr T. F. Ryan G. Nelson applied for reclassification from Star juniors to Magpie third graders. Mr O’Donnell pointed out that the application was not in order, as a clearance had not been received from the Star Club. Mr Mclntosh moved, that the request be granted, subject to a clearance being received from the Star Club. This was carried. Lance-Corporal Macßeth applied for a loan of football, socks and jerseys use by th e Greymouth Territorials when they play th e Hokitika Territorials next Saturday. Mr O’Donnell moved that the jerseys be loaned to the Territorials, but stated that socks would not be available. Mr Kyl e pointed out that ther e was a motion on the bocks that no Union socks or jerseys be loaned to any 'unaffiliated clubs. Mr O’Donnell moved that th e application be granted subject to the usual conditions. The motion was carried. The /Kiwi Club (Hokitika) wrote asking for the Mac Lean Cup which they had won. It was decided to hand the cup to Mr R. Roberts on his return from Nelson with the Seddon Shield team The Royal New Zealand Air Force (Blenheim) wrote asking if a match could be arranged between an Air Forc e junior team and a Greymouth junior team, and stating that a senior Learn had recently played at. Westport for patriotic purposes. The chairman said that, if the gam e was to b e played, it should be a club affair. Mr O’Donnell suggested that. th e game be played on th G day of the final of the senior Knock-out competition. Th e chairman pointed out that the Committe e could not afford to pay th e expenses of the trip. It was too late in the season to bother with a match of that sort. If the club wanted to play a junior team it should have arranged the matter with a local club. He did not think anything could be gained for patriotic purposes. Mr Jameison I pointed out that it was th e proper thing for the Air Force team to ask the Union to find an opponent for them. The chairman said that if anyone wanted somethin f done, he would have to move it, and not just suggest ik Mr Silcock moved that th<> matter be referred to th e Heading Greymouth junior club, Celtic aim that it be pointed out to them that the Union would pay no expenses. The chairman said that that wtis just shelving th e matter, not dealing with it. They would have every team in New Zealand on them
It was decided to send letters eV thanks to th P Star Club for use of their pavilion, and to the Pipe Band. Th e chairman referred to the debt of gratitude which the committee owed to Messrs J. Steel, R. R. King, and A. Dowell, pointing out how pleased the Air Force players had been with their visit. He moved that a letter of appreciation b p sen t 1° them. The motion was carried. It was also decided .to send a letter of thanks to Mr F. Costello and his assistants for their good work in preparing lunch etc for th? Air Force team at Mitchell’s last Sundav. Mr Jamieson pointed out that the fourth grade game which had been played last Saturday between Blaketown and th P Technical School had only been a friendly game. He had heard som P comment passed on t.ho playing of third graders in the Tech, team.
Mr Steel’s motion that all football
b e suspended next Saturday was carried. The chairman moved that nominations be called for a seven-u-siao tournament to b e held at Greymoui.li on September 28, nominations to close on September 24, and Mr Baillie moved that nominations be called for the junior, seven-a-side tournament to oe held at Kumara on September 21, nominations to close, on September 17. Both motion s were carried. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the Air Force Head quarters, Wigrain, commenting on the splendid conduct of the Air Force team. Mr O’Donnell, said that a photograph should have been taken of th ? team. The chairman said cnat one could be obtained from Christchurch.
Mr R. R. King was appointed captain of the West Coast team to play Nelson next Saturday for the Seddon Shield, and Mr S. Hendry was appointed vice-captain. Messrs T. Mclntosh and M. Olsen were appointed joint managers of the team.
