SIX PEOPLE HURT

TRAM AND LORRY COLLIDE. CHRISTCHURCH, August 8. Six persons were injured when a Public Works Department lorry came into head-on collision with a tram at Sockburn about 6.10 p.m. on Saturday. Th e lorry was extensively damaged and the tram had to be towed back to town. The accident occurred at the intersection of Sockburn Road and Epsom Road, near the Paparua County Council offices. The tram was coming into the city and the lorry going south. J. Amos, aged 29, of Eton Street, A.shbuiton, suffered head < injuries and concussion; Thomas Wilkinson, aged 29, of 44 Beach Road, Ashbuiton, suffered a cut on the forehead; Gordon Thomas Broker, the driver, cf 33 Leeston Street, Ashburton, suifered abrasions to the head. All three' were occupants of the lorry. Amos was admitted to hospital in Christchurch, where his condition is reported as satisfactory, while the others were treated as out-patients. Three cccupant s of the tram were hurt, Bert Lawrence Schieb, of the Addington military camp, suffered abrasions to the neck; Frederick William Barton, of Goose Bay, Kaikoura, had abrasions on the forehead; Edward Saggers, of the Burnham Military Camp, was bruised the leg. They were treated at the hospital' and sent home.
