PEACE AGITATION
In South Africa SMUTS CRITICISES AFRIKAANDERS (Received July 31, 8.30 p.m.) CAPETOWN, July 31. Dr Malan of the Nationalist Party protested on behalf of a number of Afrikaan students, who have been badly man-handled for deliberately breaking the daily two minutes’ silence.
The Prime Minister, upon the protect being made, vigorously accused Dr Malan and his colleagues or stirring up strife. General Smuts said: Disorderhnesz, sabotage and public violence are at pi esent being perpetrated. They most likely are the outcome of the vehement peace propaganda which you and your party are conducting. You have slighted Parliament’s decision, opposed the country’s policy, and cultivated a spirit of resistance against lawful authority.
