GREY HARBOUR LOAN

bill passed by house. WELLINGTON, July 31. In the House to-night, the Greymouth Harbour Loan Bill, introduced by Mr J. O’Brien (Govt., Westland) was granted urgency for its passage through the remaining stages. Mr O’Brien stated that the measure will enable the Harbour Board to secure the services of a dredge-tug to allow it to work the port more successfully.

The Bill was read a second time

without discussion. In the committee stage, Mr E. T. Tirikatene (Govt., Southern Maori) asked whether the measure entailed any financial liability in relation to the native reserve area of Greymouth.

Mr O’Brien replied that the Board had arranged to finance the dredgetug proposition without any native reserve being anywise affected. The Bill was passed by the House.
