Threatening Sydney DIRE RESTRICTIONS LIKELY. (Received July 31, 11.50 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 31. As the result of prolonged dry weather in the catchment area, Sydney’s water supply will be utterly depleted if substantial rain does not fall within twelve months, declared the Chief Engineer of the Metropolitan Water Board to-day. He predicted that the Board would, shortly, completely prohibit the use of hoses for gardens, golf links, tennis courts, and similar places. The Board also would prohibit the us P of water for' putZic baths, for the washing of vehicles, and the flushing of street channels. '
