HOKITIKA. July 31
The change in the weather proceeding over the last day or two resulted in rain commencing about noon, but the fall was not heavy. At the weekly meeting of the Rugby Sub-Union there were present Mr. A. Lawn (chair), Messrs S. Moore, S. Havill, G. Shaw. Rev. Dr Harrison, J. Coulson, A Stevenson, C. L. Harper, E. W. Heenan and M. Davidson. It was agreed to run a one-round senior competition, and the following teams nominated:— Kiwis, Excelsiors, and Kokatahi. Fixtures were approved as follows: For Saturday, Excelsiors v. Kokatahi, al 2.30 p.m. (Referee, C. Briggs). McLean Trophy Match: Kiwi A v. Cobden, at Hokitika, at 2.45 p.m. (Referee, W. J. Brown). Greymouth Presidents v. Hokitika Presidents, at 1-30 p.m. (Referee, D Stuart). The members or the Kiwi B team were given permission to link with anv of the senior teams for the one-round competition. It was decided to challenge South Westland for the Dittman Shield, requesting a match on August 10.
The combined Women’s Guild hela yesterday, under the management of All Saints’ Guild, a bring and buy afternoon, the proceeds amounting to £23/18/7 for the Patriotic Fund. a sum of £ll/17/7 was raised by the school children of Stafford for tne children’s ambulance fund from a concert and social at the Stafford Hall, and a bottle drive. The children who took part were: Joy Clam June Fox. Mara Srhoy, Frances whitiskie. Roma Rasmussen, Nat and Mary Steele, Pam Clark, Betty Weaver, Ewen Weaver, Malcolm Dalkie, Theo Rasmussen, Jonn Srhoy, Mauric e Roberts, Ron Roberts, Allan Dalkie and John Rasmussen.
