LOur Own Correspondent] REEFTON, July 26. At the Hospital Board’s ordinary meeting there were present Messrs J. B. Auld (chair), F. Seawright, P. O’Regan, T. Watson, W. Clayton, W. S. Clark, T. Watson, B. Mirfin, F. WArcher. The chairman extended to Mr. J. O’Regan and his family the sympathy of the Board in the death of Mrs. O’Regan, and members stood in silence as a mark of esteem. Mr. P. J. O’Regan, for the famny, thanked the Board for its sympathy. It was decided that members attending the opening of the new T.E. block at the Grey Hospital on Monday confer with the Grey Board re the sanatorium agreement. It was decided to have 50 copies of the Board by-laws printed. Regarding a Health Department letter as to hospital improvement, it was decided to ask the Matron for an explanation. Th e Department advised that a relieving sister for the maternity annexe was available. It was agreed that the matter of postponing elections be left to the Government. The chairman and secretary were appointed to confer with Mr. A. Wells on his plans for a porter’s cottage at the hospital. Dr. Wickcn was granted a week’s leave on a medical conference. It was decided to call applications for the post of cook at the hospital at £4 per week. Messrs Archer and ■ Seawright wer e appointed a visiting > committee after a lengthy discussion. Matron Kane reported Nurse Miller had commenced relieving duty at the Maternity Ward. Dr. Wicken reported: Admitted 23, discharged 24, X-rays 9, births 7, anaesthetics 9. out-patients 8, attendances 19. The following accounts were passed: W J. August £B/16/3, S. Austin £ll/10/-, W. The County Council meeting was attended by Crs. J. O’Regan (cha’r.xnan), F. Seawright, T. Watson, B. Miriin, J. McGregor, W. Hempseed. W. Clayton. The members made reference to the Loss sustained by the .Chairman (Cr. J. O’Regan) and his family in the death of Mrs. O’Regan, and the sympathy of members was conveyed to him, and a motion of sympathy carried. It was decided that regarding placing of British children the Council join tno Grev area. A letter from Mr. G. A. Perry (Mayor of Hokitika) regard-. ing a grant in connection with Mr. D. J Evans’ services at the Centennial was received. It was decided to approve New Welcome Coy. s application for a rent reduction. It was decided not to object to G. Saunders application for prospecting licenses crossing Blackwater-Waiuta Roam
Regarding th e estate of H. T. Crompton it wa s decided to purchase section. A meeting to consider emergency precautions was decided on. It was decided to take n o action re rural housing. It was decided to call tenders for the Snowy River-Lower Alexander Mine Road and to have footpaths in Broadway repaired. Mrs. C. E, Wicken was granted a reduction in .water charge from ninepenc* to sixpence per week. Mr. O. Roilerson wrote regarding impounding of stock and complaining of unfairtreatment. Jas. McGill was granted a refund of heavy traffic fee. C. Hfiton was granted a connection for his home with the water supply. For the Jockey Club, Messrs J. B. Auld, J. B Discaciati and W. Gore Porte;, asked a reduction in th e racecourse water charge from 2/6 to 1/- per week Cr. Blackadder said the C.ub was outside the reticulation area, and houses in Rosstown paid extra charges on thi s account. Th e Council could not discriminate. Cr. P JO’Regan said the charges had to be uniform. On the motion of these members the charge was reduced to 1/6 per week, as from October, 1905, if the account were paid within - month. It was decided that the Engineer attend to repairs to Prohibition short track, at Waiuta.-Cai-ried. The necessary resolution con cerning the striking of the rates a 4-’-d for the general rate, -d. for the teind rate, and 7-Sd. for the Bra rate, was passed.
