Lord Gowrie the Governor-Gener-al, said: “The ’limits of freedom are reached when men, who profess allegiance to a nation other than their own nation, plan to overthrow constitutional government, and when they direct their activities toward the defeat of their own country in a war to which that country is committed. Referring to the coal strike, Lord Gowrie said that the Government would take every step to uphold the law and the Arbitration awards, and he added that should the coal strike threaten the ‘essential or the country’s internal or external defence activities, then necessary and appropriate action would be taken to maintain the coal supplies.
