FIRMER DEMAND For Fat Stock lOur Own Cni-respondentl. CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. There Avas inclined to be a firmer demand for fat stock at to-day’s Addington Market which Messrs H. Matson and Co. review as follows:— Store Sheep.—The entry was smaller, numbering 8000. Half the penning comprised lambs. Forward lambs sold from 10s 3d to 16s, and backward ones from 5s 6d to 8s 6d. There was a small penning of good two-tooths. These sold from 22s to 245. There was an easing in demand. Older ewes met with a freer sale, average S.M. ewes selling from 10s to 12s 6d. Inferior sorts fetched 3s 9d to 8s 6d. Twotooths halfbred wethers sold ■ to 19s. Lambs.—There' was a smaller entry of 1200, the quality" being poor. Prime lambs met a keen sale at Is a head bfetter. Freezing companies were fairly active, buying lambs at from schedule rates to a shade lower. Best lambs sold to 30s 4d. Sheep.—There was a lighter entry of 5000, the quality, being mixed. Ewes predominated. Prime quality sorts, and a few other classes, wethers in particular, were firmer by Is to Is 6u a. head. Prime and medium ewes were at par. Medium wethers advanced by 6d to Is a head. There was an active interest taken by freezing companies in these classes, which sold Is to Is 6d a head better. Best wethers fetched 36s lOd, and best ewes 31s Id. Fat Cattle.—s-T’nere was a. smaller entry of 460 head. Unfinished sorts predominated in the entry. Quality classes were 10s to 15s better, with other classes from par to 5s of an improvement. Best beef sold to 38s 6-.1 per lOOlhs. Extra prime 'heavy steers sold to £l9 7s 6d prime heavy steers £l4 to £l5 10s, prime medium steers £ll 5s to £l3 15s; ordinary steers £8 ,15s to £ll, light'steer's to £B, extra prime heifers £l3 7s 6d, prime heifers £8 10s to £lO ss; medium heifers £6 5s to £B, light heifers to £5 15s, extra prime cows to £lO 17s 6d. prime cows £7 to £9, medium cows £5 10s to £6 15s, light coavs to £5 ss, Vealers.—There was a medium entry Avith a good sale for quality classes. Plain sorts eased by 5s to 10s. a head. Best runners fetched £7 7s 6d. o Store Cattle.—There was a small entiy of mixed sorts, and little interest was shown in the sale. Steers (yearlings) fetch,ed £5 2s to £5 6s. Fat Pigs.—There was a small entry of pprk. The sale opened on par with last week firming by 2s to 3s a head as the sale progressed. This increase - was maintained for the best part of the sale. Baconers were in medium supply, there being an excellent entry. Light pork sold from 37s 6d to £4 4s 6d, medium pork 49s fid to 55s 6d, and heavy pork 59s 6d to £3 4s 6d. the price per lb being 7d to 7id. Light bacon fetched £3 4s 6d to £3 14s 6d, medium bacon £3 19s 6d to £4 3s ,6d. ano. heavy bacon £4 7s 6d to £5 19s 6d the price, per lb being 63d to 7*d. Store Pigs.—There was a medium entry. It. proved the worst sale of the season for slips and weaners. Large stores met a fair-sale. Weaners sold from 4s 6d to 7s, slips 7s to Ils and stores 14s to 33s 6d.
