Mrs J. F. C. Moore returned by yesterday’s express from a holidayvisit to Sydney.
Mr. and Mrs. S. Hignett, of Christchurch, will arrive to-day on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Hignett, Karoro.

From twenty-nine applicants, Miss Joan Walker of Greymouth,. was last evening appointed office junior in the Grey Electric Power Board’s office.
Passengers by yesterday’s express to Christchurch included: Hon. A. Hamilton, Mr. C. Williams, Mr. H. Spencer, Mr. P. McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Coyle (to Christchurch), Mr. A. Addison (to Wellington).
A resolution of condolence with Hon. James Goodall M.L.C. and family in the recent death of Mrs Goodr ail, was on the motion of Mr J. B. Kent (chairman) carried in silence at last evening’s meeting of the Grey Electric Power Board. a
The Y.M.C.A. National Council has appointed Mr. Harry Shove, President of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, who is x public accountant practising in Auckland, as its overseas commissioner. He is expected to leave with the Third Echelon.

Lance Corporal R. Gilmour, who is a member of the Second Echelon, was met by the members of the West Coast Alpine Club, of which he was vice-captain, and presented with an envelope of notes. The presentation was made by Mr. M. K. B. Sheard (secretary), who referred to the keen interest which Mr. Gilmour had taken in the welfare of the Club, and wished him a happy time and a safe return. Mr. N. Sotheran and Miss D. Pound also spoke on behalf of the members, extending best wishes.
