KOTUKU NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (Our Own Correspondent.) The Kotuku Women’s Institute held a picnic at the Seven Mile on February 24, when an enjoyable time was spent by all' present. Ice creams, fruit and lollies were provided for all. Numerous races were run for children. A mannequin relay race caused much amusement. The following are results of the adult races:—Three-leg-ged: Mr and Mrs Jack 1; egg and spoon (men); Mr Guernole 1; (ladies): Mrs Fiveash 1; cigarette(ladies): Mrs F. Fiveash 1; cigaretterace: Miss R. Molloy and Mr Geary 1; married men: Mr Geary 1; married ladies: Mrs Fiveash 1; single ladies: Miss C. Fiveash 1; single men: Mr Graham Rouse 1; wheelbarrow: Miss Molloy and Mr Bell 1. On Saturday evening the members of the Institute and their husbands paid a surprise visit, to Mr and Mrs Rouse, the evening taking the form of a social, and games and items were enjoyed by all present. Mrs Geary on behalf of the members, presented Mr Rouse with a fountain pen in appreciak. of his auditing the books for the Institute for the last five years. “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant evening to a close. The Institute held Its annual meeting last Thursday, Mrs Rouse presiding. The balance-sheet was read and adopted. Mrs Jack and Mrs Bell, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs Geary and Mrs Rouse, each with a bouquet of flowers and a writing set in appreciation for the work they had done as Secretary and President throughout the year. The winners of the competitions held during the year were Mrs Jack and Mrs Waller. Mrs Rouse won a special prize donated by Mrs Jack. The officers for the coming year were elected as follows: Mr® Rouse President (re-elected); Mrs Geary SecretaryTreasurer; Vice-Presidents, Mrs Bell, Mrs Jack and Mrs Latimer. Committee, Mrs Fiveash, Mrs Hill, Mrs Priest and Mrs Guernole. A dainty supper was served by Mrs Rouse, Mrs Waller and Mrs McGuinness.
