NEW PETROL COUPONS
FOR CONTINUOUS TRAVELLERS TO REPLACE SPECIAL LICENSES. WELLINGTON, March 14. Where the holder of a special petrol license travels continuously, his license to obtain petrol will now be supplemented by a new type of coupon. This was announced by Hon. D. G. Sullivan to-night. Commercial travellers, salesmen and other persons who use motor vehicles regularly to travel long distances will be benefited by a simplification in the procedure that will result. To give effect to these provisions, a warrant v/as gazetted to-day. The Minister said that, instead of obtaining a special license for the requisite gallonage at the beginning of each month, a commercial traveller will now be given an appropriate number of gold-coloured coupons. When purchasing petrol, he will surrender these coupons, as in the case of the private motorist. No special entries in the books of the service station will be necessary. The petrol attendant will not have to add up entries on the back of the license. He will not have to check the total with the amount stated on the front, and he will not have to make his own entry on the license. The established procedure with special licenses will still be necessary in the case of those persons making occasional or irregular lengthy journeys. The new procedure has been established for the convenience of those who are continuously on the road said Mr Sullivan. Under no circumstances may the new gold coupons be sold or transferred. The coupons take the place of the special license, and heavy penalties are provided in the regulations for the transfer of petrol, ]or coupons, obtained under this authority. Discretion is given to District Controllers to decide the cases in which gold coupons are to be made available.
