Mr G. Kirk returned yesterday from Wellington. Mr S. Dyer arrived yesterday from Christchurch. Mrs S. Orr returned yesterday from Wellington. Mrs J. Steel returned from Christchurch yesterday. Miss F. Broad arrived yesterday from New Plymouth. Mrs Baxter Russell leaves to-day on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs W. Shannon, Rimu, returned last evening from Wellington. Mr J. Shannon returned by yesterday’s express from Christchurch. Mr F. Nightingale, Hokitika, returned last evening from Wellington. Monty Banks, the film producer, announced that he is marrying Gracia Fields shortly, according to a Los Angeles cablegram. Mr W. H. Walker, who succeeds Mr A. Walton as supervisor of the Telegraph Oflice, Greymouth, arrived yesterday from Invercargill, accompanied by Mrs Walker and family.
Passengers by yesterday’s express to Christchurch included: Mrs P. Power and Mi-ss K. Power (to Wellington), Mrs A. H. Nightingale, Mr G. Kennedy, Mr and Mrs T. A. Davie (to Christchurch).
Mr M. J. Lynch, Public Works Department, Greymouth, left yesterday morning for New Plymouth. He is under notice of transfer to Wellington, and has for the past two seasons been a West Coast Rugby representative.
The funeral of Squadron Leader D M. Allan will take place to-day at Auckland. It will be a full service funeral, with a firing party and escort from the Royal New Zealand Air Force Base at Hobsonville. The funeral will leave for the crematorium at Waikumete. Subsequently the ashes will be scattered from an acreplane.

A quiet wedding took place yesterday at Holy Trinity Churoh, Greymouth, when Corporal Harper (son of Mr. A. P. Harper, solicitor, of Christchurch), who is a member of the Second Echelon, and now on final leave, was united to Miss Patricia Stapleton, daughter of Mr. John Stapleton, of Reefton. The ceremony was performed by Ven. Archdeacon Jermyn, in the presence of a gathering of relatives «nd friends.
At last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth Main School Committee Mr L. B. Galbraith, first assistant at the school, tendered his resignation as from the end of the term, owing to his appointment as headmaster at Lumsden School. The resignation was accepted with regret, and the committee decided to forward a letter to Mr Galbraith, congratulating him and wishing him every success in his new position, also thanking him for his services to the school during the past four years.
