MILLINERY INDUSTRY
WEST COAST LABOUR SUPPLY. ~, Yesterday a meeting was held at the office of Mr. J. S. Robertson, Mackay Street, of the Man Power Committee, set up at the request of the Hon. P. C. Webb, R. Semple and F. Langstone to consider what steps should be taken to provide a workable solution for the present shortage of skilled and unskilled labour in the sawmilling industry. The members of the Committee comprise: The District Engineer, Public Works Department, Chairman (represented by Mr. R. R. Dawber, Engineer); the Placement Ofiicer, Social Security Department; Mr. J. S. Robertson (representative of employers); Mr. F. Turley (representative of Employees’ Union). After a general discussion of the problems invowed, it was decided to circularise ail the sawmillers in this district to ascertain exactly their labour requirements. On receipt of these lints a further meeting will be held.
