UNIVERSITY ATHLETES. AUCKLAND, March 13. The visiting Australian University athletes commenced their New Zealand tour with a floodlight meeting at Carlaw Park last night. With one exception, eacn member of the team secured a win in. his gvent. In winning the invitation 100 yards scratch race in lOsec, B. Dunn, the star performer of the team, gave a fine performance. The half-miler, W. Arrowsmith, easily accounted for the '’’BBo yards in the good time, of 2min 0 l-ssec, with R. Nuggent, Auckland, and New Zealand University champion, in second place. B. A. Curtin had no difficulty in winning the 440 yards invitation scratch race in 53 l-ssec, and a fine exhibiton of hurdling was given by G. L. Wilson, British Empire Games representative, who won the 120 yards hurdles event in the fine time of 15 4-ssec. The attendance was 2000, and the weather was excellent. The visiting team will make its next appearance at Dunedin, and will then compete at the New Zealand University tournament at Christchurch at Easter, and will appear finally at Wellington. The ether Australian, G. C. Parkin, was third in the mile. FREE MILK IN SCHOOLS. WELLINGTON, March 14. "The distribution of free milk in schools has been a success,” stated the Deputy-Prime Minister Glon. P. Fraser), during a visit to Wanganui. “There is no intention on the part of the Government of replacing it with supplies of fruit." Mr. Fraser said that the Government was doing all it could to extend the distribution of powdered malt milk to the schools in the backblocks, particularly to native schools, and it had every reason to be satisfied with the results in those schools where this class of milk was being distributed, and where it would be impossible to arrange for a daily supply of fresh milk.
