FRENCH PATROL’S ESCAPE. PARIS, March 12. A French patrol fell into a German ambush in the Nied River sector during the night, but escaped without loss. FRENCH PLANE DOWNED. BERLIN March 12. The High Command states: Nothing of importance occurred on the Western Front. Aircraft carried out a reconnaissance over Eastern France. Anti-aircraft guns shot down a French ’plane. GERMAN PLANES OVER BELGIUM BRUSSELS, March 12. M. Spaak instructed the Ambassador at Berlin energetically to protest against the flight of German planes over Belgium to-day, despite assurances that such violation would not be repeated. TAUBER TO SING. FOR SOLDIERS IN FRANCE. (Received March 13, 9.51 p.m.) RUGBY, March 13. Richard Tauber, the famous- Opera singer, returned to England on Tuesday night, after an African tour, and, according to reports, he has expressed the desire to undertake some form of war work, and he said that he was planning to go to France early in the summer to sing before the men of the B.E.F.
