Flying-Officer D. Clinkard, of Wanganui. nephew of Mr G. W. Clinkard, Trade Commissioner of New Zealand at Brussels, was killed on active service, states a London cablegram.

At last evening’s meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board resolutions of sympathy with Hon. James Goodall, M.L.C.,’and the family of the late Mr. Michael Norman Kelly, a former employee of the Board, were carried, members standing in silence.

Mr C. E. Dunn,, at present chief engineer on the s.s. Tees, has been appointed second engineer on the Greymouth Harbour Board’s dredge “Mawhera.” Mr Dunn, who was selected from seven applicants, holds a firstclass ticket in addition to an electrical wireman’s ticket.
Harold Ennor, 33, married, of Runanga, while working in the Liverpool mine yesterday morning, was caught by a fall of side coal, which fell in the mine, and received a scalp wound and fractured ribs. He was admitted to the Grey Hospital, and his condition is reported as satisfactory.
A civic reception to the new territorial commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, LieutenantCommissioner J. Evan Smith, and Mrs Smith, was tendered by the Mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) on Tuesday. The reception was attended by delegates from all parts of the Dominion to the centennial year Congress of the Army. The Government was represented by Mr Lee Martin.

After a long discussion in committee, the South Canterbury Electric Power Board decided to appoint Mr J. M. Bishop, 8.E., A.M.1.E.E., to the position of its general manager at a calary of £BOO a year. Mr Bishop, who is aged 38, is at present an electrical engineer in the head office of the Public Works Department in Wellington. Mr Bishop gained his B.E. (Electrical) degree at Canterbury University College in 1921, being awarded a travelling scholarship in engineering in 1923, and being admitted as an A.M.I.E.E. (England) in 1935. He also completed a course in accountancy at the New Zealand Univercity, passing i-js examination in professional accountancy. Until his present appointment, Mr Bishop has worked at various times with the Public Works Department at Hamilton, the General Electric Company, Ltd., at Birmingham, England, A. G. Webster and Sons, Ltd. at Hobart, Tasmania, and the Blackball Coal Company He was also assistant pow-er-house superintendent at the Monowai hydro-electric station in Southland.
The funeral of the late Mrs. Margaret Ann Goodall, wife of Hon. James Goodall, M.L.C., took place at Karoro Cemetery, Greymouth, yesterday afternoon. The services at Holy Trinity Church and at the Cemetery were conducted by Ven. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn, who, at the Church, offered the sympathy of the community to the bereaved husband and family, and referred to the late Mrs. Goodall’s unselfish devotion to duty. Included in the large number of mourners were Cr. H. Herring, and Mr. F. H. Denton, representing the Borough Council, Mr. James O’Brien, M.P., and Mrs. O’Brien, Mr. H. G. Carter (Grey Hospital Board), Mr. W. H. Parfitt (a former Mayor), Mr. J. B. Kent (Chairman, Westland L.R.C.), and Mr. J. Higgins (Grey County Council), and many representatives of Labour organisations on the West Coast. The pall bearers were Messrs J. B. Kent, H. Herring, (Secretary Druids’ Lodge). W. Ford, E. Fell, J. E. Goodall, and E. Jones. Many beautiful floral tributes were received from the following:—Mayor, Councillors and Citizens of Greymouth: Directors and Staff of the Grey River Argus; Mr. and Mrs. J.
