BIG INCREASE
RAILWAY REVENUE. A net revenue of £182,884 or £27,184 more than for the corresponding period last year, is shown by the railway working account for the four weeks ended February 3, an abstract of which was published in last week’s Gazette. The returns for the railway year to that date show a net revenue of £674,293 for the 44 weeks, an increase of £465,633 on the amount for 'the corresponding portion of the preceding year. The gross revenue for the four weeks was £889,546, an increase of £49,884. Expenditure was £706,662, or £22,736 higher.
Operating revenue in the Narth Island as £512,880, which is £47,378 more than in the corresponding period last year. Expenses amounted to £381,932, an increase of £20,715. Net (Gainings increased by £26,663 to £130,948. In the South Island receipts were £262,237 and expenses £243,035, increases of £3228 and £1965 respectively. Net earnings at £19,202 were £1263 higher. Net revenue from miscellaneous services was £32,734. The gross revenue was £114,429, and the expenditure £81,695. Revenue for the 44 weeks from April 1 to February 3 was, £8,226,240, an Increase of £728,823 on the figure for the corresponding portion of last year. Expenses, totalling £7,551,947 were £263,190 higher.
