Pleas of guilty and an appeal for leniency were made by Raymond Patrick Letton, 33, plastsrer ,when charged at the Police Court, with being an incorrigible rogue in that he escapll from a place of lawful confinement before the expiration of the term ror which he was committed. The police said that Letton was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, in the Supreme Court, last March, and on‘the night of November 4 he escaped from a cell at Rangipo prison camp, Tokaanu, after cutting out a window. He was recaptured by a constable at Kingsland’ on December 24.. ■ This was the second time , that . Letton had escaped from custody. Letton told the Magistrate (Mr McKean) that he tried to join the army and make a fresh start. - ' “It is probably just as well you didn’t join the army,” said' Mr. McKean. “However, I am taking 'into account what you told me. On this charge, you will be. sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, to be served at the expiry of the term, you are now serving.” . - -■. -- ..
