SMALLER ENTRIES. LAMBS AND PIGS IN DEMAND. CHRISTCHURCH, January 4. Smaller entries were made yesterday at Addington market. Fat pigs, lambs and sheep, improved in price. Cattle dropped 15s a head. Messrs H. Matson and Co. review the sale as follows:— ' Store Sheep: A keen sale was experienced for 1,500 head. Lambs corriprised the bulk and met . with good competition. One lot went at 17s, with another big line at 16s 3d. Medium sorts sold between 13s 2d and 14s sd, with cull lambs to Ils while 94 old woolly ewes and lambs fetched 10s Id, all counted. Medium two-tooth wethers made 14s 6d, and young ewes 17s. Fat Lambs: The entry was 60' 1 head. The demand was very keen, export companies paying schedule rates to a fraction more. The local trade paid Bid per lb. for light and medium-weight.

Fat Sheep: The entry was only 3,000, but was sufficient. The market opened briskly at the best of last week’s rates, and later rose by Is to Is 6d a head on the rates of a fortnight ago. Light wethers showed little change, but there was some buying for export of light ewes at up to 13s. Extra prime heavy wethers to 33s 7d; prime heavy wethers 30s to 325; prime medium-weight wethers, 26s 6d to 29s 6d; ordinary wethers 21s to 255; light wethers to 20s; extra prime heavy ewes to 33s lOd; prime heavy ewes 25s to 27s 6d; prime medium-weight ewes, 20s to 23s 6d; ordinary ewes, 16s to 18s: light ewes, 10s 6d to 14s.

Fat Cattle: There was an entry of 432. The market opened at about last week’s rates, but demand weak ened. On an average, heavy steers were down by nearly 20s a head, and medium and other cows by 15s to 17s/ Values were: Extra prime hea\y steers, to £2O 2s 6d; prime heavy steers £l5 to £l7; prime mediumweight steers, £l3 10s to £l5 ss; ordinary steers, £9 10s to £l2 ss; light steers, to '£9 ss; extra prime heifers, to £l2 17s 6d; prime heifers, £lO to £l2; medium heifers, £8 5s to £9 10s; light heifers to £8; extra prime cows, to £l2 7s 6d; prime cows, £8 15s to £lO ss; medium cows, £7 to £8 10s; light cows, to £6 15s. Vealers: An improved sale for ail classes was recorded in the vealersection, the range of values being; Best runners, to £7 3s 6d; medium to good runners, £3 8s to £4 10s; extra good vealers, £3 12s 6d to £4 15s 6d; good vealers, £2 to £3 18s; large calves, 30s to £2 ss; small calves, 9s to 30s.

Store Cattle: Odd Dens of coys comprised the bulk of the entry. Dairy Cattle: Few quality sorts were included in the entry of 70 head, and they sold well, making up to £l2 a head and more. There was little change in the values of other grades although the tone of the market was slightly better. Fat Pigs: A small entry of porters early brought a rise of 3s to 4s a head, but later values slipped back to little better than export parity. Choppers met with a keen sale and baconers were slightly dearer. Values were: Choppers, £3 Is 6d to £6 Is; I'ght porkers, 37s 6d to 43s 6d: medium porkers, 44s 6d to 48s 6d; heavv porkers, 49s 6d to average price per lb., 63d to 7/d; light baconers, 58s 6d to £3 7s 6d; heavy baconers, £3 19s 6d to £4 7s 6d; medium baconers, £3 9s 6d to £3 17s 6d; average price per lb, 6id to 63d. Store Pies: There was a small entry and little interest was taken in the sale, with the result that values slumped on the high rates of a fortnight ago. Values were: Weaners, small 10s to 12s,’ medium 13s to 15s; good, to 18s 6d; slips, 18s to 245; small stores, 25s to 295; large stores, to 35s 6d.
