RUGBY FOOTBALL
WEST COAST UNION. Mr J. Guy presided at the weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union last evening when there were •present Messrs T. P. Ryan, F, W. Baillie, D. R. Dowell, J. Steel, M. Olsen. H. F. Silcock, W. M. Stewart, T. Mclntosh, F. Eggleton, and O. McLean (Secretary). Mr Mclntosh reported on the visit of the West Coast Seddon Shield team to Westport, and remarked on the high standard of football. It was decided to forward letters of appreciation to the Buller Union for the hospitality extended to the West Coast, team, and to make particular mention of the assistance given by Mr McEnaney, 'local manager of the team. It was also decided to write Mr Wingate of the Buller Hotel, thanking him for the manner which the team had been looked after. On Mr Stewart’s motion it was decided to record the executive’s appreciation of the excellent conduct of the West Coast representative travelling teams during the year. The Fixtures Committee reported that the position of teams in the second senior competition was as follows: Cobden 6 points, Celtic 4, Kiwis 4, Excei.sior 2, Blaketown, United and Stars 0.
Il was also reported that the junior competition points were as follows; —■ Te Kinga 5 points, Cobden 4, Kumara 3, Magpies 2, Celtic 2, Stars 0. It was decided that nominations for the junior seven-a-side at Kumara on Septembei - 30, close next Thursday night.

All Black Trials McAuliffe gets a chance. CHRISTCHURCH, September 19. Owing to J. Purdue, the Southland' half-back, not being available, J. J. McAuliffe, of Canterbury, has been included in the list of emergencies for the South Island team. A. G. Hunter, one of the nine Canterbury players chosen to take part in the trial matches, has announced that he is not available for the trials, which will begin on Saturday, because of his University examinations.
