ROTORUA-TAUPO RAILWAY.
NO ACTION ON PETITION. WELLINGTON, Septpbem 4. No recommendation was made by the Public Petitions Committee in a report tabled in the House of Representatives in respect of two petitions, one from E. E. Vaile, of Auckland, and 151 others, and the second from C. A. Whitney, of Auckland, and 88 others, praying that effect should be given to previous reports and recommendations regarding the construction of a railway line between Rotorua and Taupo. The petitioners pointed out that- the work was begun in 1928 and that £44.000 was spent on it
before it was stopped under Sir Joseph’s Ward Government in 1929. Mr. A. F. Moncur (Government, Rotorua) said there was nothing to prevent the matter being - raised again. He referred to the growing importance of the district, big plantations in the area, and an increasing number of settlers.
