Shipping: WESTPORT, September 5. The Kiwitea, from Auckland, is still delayed in the roadstead awaiting conditions on the bar to moderate, and will load coal for return to Auckland. The Karbtu is expected to sail irom Wellington to-morrow and load coal on Friday for return to Wellington. The Totara is expected from Lyttelton on Thursday to load coal for Timaru. The Alexander is due from Nelson to-day to load coal for Nelson. The Rata has been delayed and is expected from Nelson to-morrow to load coal for New Plymouth and Wanganui.

Personal: Miss L. Thorpy, of Wellington, and formerly of this town, is visiting Westport. Dr. J. Leslie Will, of Christchurch, paid an official visit to Westport during the week-end. Miss Vera Layfield, of Nelson, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. Layfield, Hector. Mrs. Gordon Mason (nee MissJ’oyce Harden) was guest of honour at a kitchen evening held last evening at the residenc of Mrs. Anderson, DerbyStreet. Mrs. Mason was the recipient of many useful presents, and the evening was spent enjoyably in games and competitions. Amongst those present were Mrs. Anderson, and Misses Norma McDonald, Tira O’Neill, Mary Anderson, Jean Cunliffe, Phyllis Robinson, Joan Anderson, Nancy and Jessie Watson. I

The death occurred early last evening at the Buller Hospital of Mrs. Mulholland, wife of Mr. Robert Mulholland (senr.), of Seddonville. Deceased, who wAs 77 years of age, was a native of Herts, Yorkshire Engk nd, and had been a resident of New Zealand for the past 47 years. She leaves a grown-up family. Sympathy is extended to the family in their sad loss. The late Mrs. Mulholland had a wide circle of friends, who will all sincerely regret her demise, and s\ mpathise with her relatives.

Emergency Committee: The Mayor, Mr. John Kilkenny, and the County Chairman, Mr. D. Archer, held a special meeting yesterday afternoon of Borough Councillors, to arrange and organise an Emergency Precautions Committee for Westport and Buller district. The Mayor explained that neighbouring authorities should combine in formulating their detailed plans, particularly in the case of coastal populations and inland town districts. Natural disasters and enemy action take no notice of local body boundaries; collaboration discussed and arranged in times of peace and normal activities, will go far to avoiding confusion between adjacent authorities. There was a large preparation of detail necessary, ' and special committees and controllers co-opted from citizens, public bodies and Government departments were being formed immediately. It was a civil organisation, and it was the duty of all to collaborate. Mr. Archer, County Chairman, spoke on similar lines and stated that County Councillors and residents of the County areas would be co-opted to give all assistance. The Mayor further said that no time was being lost m completing the organisation and a further meeting would be held on Wednesday night. Messrs C. F. Schadick, 0.8. E., and P. Morgan, were appointed organising secretaries.

Supreme Court: A brief sitting of the Supreme Court was held at Westport yesterday morninc, Mr. Justice Northcroft presiding. Victor Gordon Glennie petitioned for a divorce against Zita Dulcie Glennie, naming Eric H. Mellett as co-respondent. The petitioner gave evidence of his wife leaving on a holiday visit to Christchurch and the boarder at their house at Inangahua, Mellett, leaving for the same place the next day. Later he found that his wife and Mellett were living together as man and wife in a Westport boarding-house, and later in a flat in that town. Evidence was given by the boarding-house proprietor. A decree nisi was granted, to be made absolute in three months. Peter James Duncan’s application for a decree nisi against Elizabeth Duncan on the grounds of adultery was granted. Harriet Tremaine Shrives was granted a discharge from bankruptcy.

Buller Rugby Union: The weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Buller Rugby Union was held last evening, there being present Messrs M. B. Scully (chair), K. Shrimpton, C. M. Robertson, T. Scanlon, H. Casey, and the secretary, Mr. W. A. -Craddock Inward correspondence was received and dealt with as follows: From Kumara Football Club, thanking the Union for arranging a curtain raiser, with a team for the West Coast Sectdon Shield game. The secretary was instructed to arrange accommodation. From Nelson Rugby Union, extending congratulations to the Buller Union for team retaining Seddon Shield in the game against Nelson.— Received. It was decided that the mutual agreement between the Rover and Old Boy Senior, teams for the match played last Saturday to represent the final of the Senior Shield, and Ambury Cup, be confirmed, and Old Boys were declared the winners of both fixtures. L. Hart was added to the White Star Football Club third grade list. A cheque of £25 was received from the N.Z.R.U. for school football. Mr. E. A. Empson was appointed by the N.Z.R.U.' to referee the West Coast-Buller Seddon Shield ■ match. Officials for the Fijian visit were appointed as follows: —Manager of Buller senior team, Mr. H. Casey; Manager for Fijians, Mr. W A. Craddock. It was decided that the entertainment, arrangements for the tourists while in Westpoi’t, be left to the secretary. Mr. C. Robertson was > appointed local manager of the Christchurch Old Boys’ team, and Mr. P. Ryan manager of the Buller B 1 team. It was decided that the usual traffic regulations observed at the Seddon Shield games, be also observed: for the .game on Saturday. Mr I A. Pain was appointed referee of the

curtain-raiser. It was decided to put the usual box plan into operation. The Buller A team is to meet at the Black and White Hotel at 2 p.m.. and the B team at the Albion Hotel at 12.45 p.m. The B team will play in black and gold jerseys.

| Football Association: | The following is the report of a special meeting of the Buller Football Association held in Ngakawau. Owing to the Canterbury Association having been granted the 16th of September as the date for their Dawson Cup match with Westland, it was desided to write Westland and suggest the 23rd September as the date for the Emms Shield and Dewar Cup. It was decided to arrange the Toll Cup final between Bachelor and Ngakawau to be played at Waimangaroa next Sunday, 10th September. It was also resolved that the re-play between Bachelor and Thistle juniors, also Thistle and Stockton seniors be played at Ngakawau next Sunday, 10th September. Mr. J. Miller, chairman of the Association, presented the cups that have been won by the clubs up to the present. D.C.L. Cup (Bachelor Juniors), Kent Cup (Bachelor School), McArthur Cup (Stockton School). A trial match between the Buller team and the rest is to be arranged for 17th September. Fixtures for 10th September:— Thistle v. Stockton, 2.30 p.m.-, final Temby Cup re-play; Thistle v. Bachelor, 1 p.m. Both games will be played at Ngakawau. Mr. R. Robertson referee. Final, Foil Cup: Bachelor v. Ngakawau, 2.30 p.m., at Waimangaroa. Mr. Owen Duffy referee.

The chief trophy, the Shell Case, for the championship, went to P. G. Tizard !(C.1.8.), Greymouth, with a score of 124 for 27 holes, while the bomb for the best net score went to A. G. Petjley (N.Z.R.8.) Westport. The morning medal round was won by A. J. ’ Struthers (N.Z.F.A.), Westport, and the afternoon Stableford Bogey match was won by' S. T. Davis (A. 1.8. ■ Greymouth. The “Mugs Cup” for the greatest score went to G. G. M.
