WANGANUI REHANDICAPS. WELLINGTON, September 3. Rehandicaps for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting on Thursday are: Putiki Hack Handicap—Hagen 9.2, Viracious 8.12. Marangai Handicap—Windsor Chief 7.8. , Flying Handicap—Beaulivre 8.12. Racing Notes A Geraldine Candidate:

Monipere showed improved form on Saturday and only gave in to Straightdell on the line. He actually headed off Straightdell nearing the post, but the latter made a renewed effort in the last few strides. Nightwings, bracketed with Monipere, showed up during the middle stages, but ha d not been up long and could not carry on in the straight. She is booked to contest the Geraldine Cup This month and will be a difficult proposition. N.Z. Cup Nominations: The nominations for the New Zealand Cup number sixty-nine, or thirteen more than last year, and included in the list are the majority of the Dominion’s best handicap per-1 formers. | Arctic King, who was successful last year has again been accorded an entry, but The Buzzer and Milford, who filled the "“Tninor places, are among the missing. An interesting entrant is Survoy, who during the winter won the Great Northern and Wellington Steeplechases. Several gallopers now campaigning at the spring meetings in Australia have been nominated, and among the number are Peerless, Royal Chief, and Aranui.

The list is as follows: — New Zealand Cup, £2000; 2 miles. — Thermidor, Tooley Street, Yours Truly, Essex, Gay Mimic, Royal Star 11, Parquet, Royal Chief Settlement, Peerless, Hinerawe, Siegmund, Kena The Wrecker, Hagen, Majority. Ned Cuttie, Buccaneer, Lady Furst, Shanghai Lily, PassaTorm, Survoy, Dictate, Little Robin, Second Innings, Entail, Beaupartir, Kobi, Elettra, Mishna, Tidewaiter, Golden Enterprise, Trebor, Might, Colonel Bogey, Made Money. Hunting Cat, Dainty Sue, Catalogue, The Crooner, Rabble, Aranui, Raana, Spartan, Golden Shelia, Queen of Song, High Glee, Capricious, Arctic King, Rebel Lad, Baimemer, Dungarvan, Lowenberg, Auto Sweep, Centrepoise, Reipar, The Cardinal, Willie Win, Mataroa, Verey Lights Valantua, Shy, .Old Surrey, SwordStick, Charade, Lady Montana, Wagner, Sly Fox, Gay Son.

Early Country Success: Little Briton, who easily won the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup Steeplechase at New Plymouth on Thursday, was having only his second race over country. In his first he ran well and finished close up in the Andrew Kay Memorial Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase at the Waipa meeting in June. Subsequently he schooled promisingly at Ellerslie prior to the Pakuranga Hunt meeting, but at that fixture he went back to. hurdling and missed the money. Little Briton is a nine-year-old black gelding by Little England from an unnamed mare by Maniapoto, so that he is well bred for the jumping game. He did not do his first racing till last season, when he was twice successful in hunters’ hurdles events during the spring and finished into the money behind Ellanui and Loombination at Ellerslie in June. He is owned by Mr L. R. Kay. of Te Awamutu, and is trained at Te Rapa by A. L. Seifert. Kena:

Kena has been unlucky in the races he has had since his transfer to Trentham. but the field that will oppose him in the Marangai Handicap at Wanganui next Thursday is not so strong as those he has recently been facing.

Curie: Curie, winner of the Winter Hutdies at Trentham in July, will return Io the fiat at Wanganui this week. Twelve months ago he won the hurdnng double at Wanganui.

Gay Son: Gay Son, who failed to justify his favouritism in the open sprint on the first day at Wanganui last September, is due to commence his present season's racing in the same event.

Toper: One of the best Trentham prospects at Wanganui should be Toper in the hurdle events. Since winning his first race over fences at Awapuni in July, this son of Tippler has continued to improve in his schooling.

Social Credit: . Although no confirmation of Social Credit’s remaining in the Wanganui Guineas field has been by the Wanganui Jockey Club, this Inflation colt is apparently to attend tne meeting, as he has been nominated for the maiden event on the first day.

Death of Royal Choice: Royal Choice, a member ol l. G. Morris’s team at Awapuni, injured himself internally during a recent galop and he died on Tuesday night. He was intended for the Combined Hunts meeting, where he figured among the first-day acceptances. A five-year-old gelding bv Laughing Prince from the Martian— Equitas mare to Royal Choice was a half-biothei to Martain Chief, Hunting Lodge, anc. Haece Tonu. He was owned by ins breeder, Mr T. A. D “ n ca " ,'“‘'."i “j he won five races and <vo in stakes. His wins included the Cha-npwn Hack Handicap at Awapum and the Kangi Sei Hack Cup at Marton over tne Christmas-New Year holidays, and hi final success was over hurdles at A\ apdni in May. At times he gave much promise, but periodically he cp badly, and it is possible that he has always been a sufferer from some internal trouble.

Round Up: Round Up and Flood Tide are two good handicap performers now being speeded up in their preparation, their main programme consisting of the Mitchelson Cup next month and later the Auckland Cup on Boxing Day. They still have six weeks’ further training to undergo prior to the Auckland. Spring Meeting.

Hum a Song: Hum a Song, winner of the second division of the Weraroa Stakes, is a thrce-year-old son of Foxbridge and the Quin Abbey mare, Abbey Dream, a half-sister to the jumpers, Erie and Pyrenees. Promenade: Promenade, who ran second at an outside price in the Trial Hunters’

Steeplechase at New Plymouth, appeared among the original acceptors as After Dark, a name that was not allowed. He is a seven year old Resinous gelding owned by Mr. C. R S. Paterson. Every Port: ’i It was thought that the ex-southern galloper, Every Port, would not be ’ long in getting on the winning list . this spring, and if she remains sound she will yet do so. Ho’wever, after working at headquarters this week she was very tender. She is engaged .in the maiden events at Avondale and, fit and well, she should be capable of. making a bold showing. j I Stablemates: > The stablemat'es, Marie’s Acre and Philcburt, appear all the better for ■ racing at the Pakuranga Meeting, and they are now being got ready for en- : gagements at Avondale. Philcourt is to be tried once again over middle ■ distances and figures in the mile and |a* quarter handicaps, while Marie’s l Acre is to contest the sprints. The latj ter is a very gross sort and takes a lot of work to keep him down in condition, and he may always be expected to do better on the second day of a meeting. Sebrof:

Sebrof is to have his next outing among the hack sprinters at Avon- | dale, and as he appears to be right back to his best form he should be a distinct possibility. In the meantime, his debut as a hurdler will be postponed. Silver-Stick: Silver-Stick is to be trainer F. Davis’s sole representative in the Avondale Guineas, while he is also in the Champion Plate on the opening day, the latter event being a good race to sharpen the three-year-old up for the classic on the second day. He continues to do fine work at Ellerslie, and as he was not far below the best of his age last season, he may be improved sufficiently to make it interesting for Beaulivre at a mile.

GREY J.C. ACCEPTANCES. Greymouth J'.C. acceptances for Saturday next, close this evening. Trotting Notes Zincali: Zinca'i is now C. McTigue’s team and will probably be seen in action at the Methven meeting. Brother to Fine Art: Waikari Jack, the brother to Fine Art, is doing steady work under the care of M. 8.. Edwards ,who has another addition to his team in Club King, previously trained by E. J. Smith. Carrageen Sold: I E. Carlyon has sold Carrageen ana the bay pacer will do his future racing on the West Coast. A brilliant track worker, a bright future was predicted for him. an r ] there is no doubt that he has the ability to reach good company, but his racing has jnarkecl him down as a disappointment. He has won several races, but he has repeatedly refused to reveal his best in public. and has now reached a stage where he cannot be expected to show any improvment. A Young Sire: Gamble, one of the most brilliant racehorses New Zealand has known, has been definitely retired from the race track, and is at the stud at M. B. Edwards’s stables at Yaldhurst? The first of tlie progeny of Gamble is a chestnut colt from Golden Square. In colour and markings the youngster resembles his good-looking sire.
