ALIEN REGULATIONS

, In New Zealand WELLINGTON, September 4. Provision for the registration ana identification of all aliens now in New Zealand or arriving in New Zealand is contained in the Alien Control Emergency Regulations, which were issued early this morning. All aliens must, within 14 days, apply to the nearest police station for registration, and must supply fingerprints or other means of identification as may be required. All changes of name or of residence must immediately be notified. Powers are given for the arrest ol aliens where it is deemed necessary. The employment of aliens or naturalised British subjects in loadixig on wharves or about ships, is forbidden This does not apply to persons who arrive by ship from overseas. The Change of Name Emergency Regulations forbid any person to use any name other than that by which he or she was known at the date the regulations came into force, except with the permission of the Minister jof internal affairs. NO AUCKLAND APPLICATIONS. AUCKLAND, September 4. An office was opened at police headquarters, thijs morning, to receive all aliens, in Auckland, in terms of the gazetted regulations. Up to noon, no applications were made for registration, but a rush is expected later in the afternoon.

Depots were opened in Auckland to-day for the issuing of oil fuel licenses. Until this rationing scheme becomes fully effective supplies of petrol to private car owners are not to exceed two gallons at any one time. CHANGES OF NAME. WELLINGTON, Septembei' 4. Under the change-of-name emergency regulations, which have recently been passed, no person shall, without the prior consent of the Minister of Internal Affairs, change his name. Exceptions are made in the following cases: Change of name of any woman on matrimony; any new surname authorised by Royal license; new name given to a child on adoption; change of name on entry into a religious order; new Christian name upon confirmation.
