ART UNION WINNER

i i NAME NOT DISCLOSED. CHRISTCHURCH, August 26. “Tidewaiter,” winner of the first • prize of £2OOO in the “Pot Luck” art union, is preserving a discreet silence as to his or her identity. The only information that. Mr D. A. McCormick, Christchurch, agent for the sale of tickets, could give to-day: was that the ticket was bought at Eslick’s, Ltd., hairdressers, Colombo Street. Mr L. Brian, manager of Eslick’s Ltd., has no recollection of selling the .icket, nor has Miss Iris Taylor, assistant in the shop. They explained, however, that if they were busy in the shop the purchaser of a ticket would often fill in the name himself and they would not even notice the nom-de-plume. Most of the tickets for this are union were sold during race week, said Mr Brian. The nom-de-plume sugests that the winner of £2OOO was a teen racing enthusiast. Mr McCormick said he had received the usual number of inquiries from 1 people who had mislaid or lost thentickets and who thought that the vanished slip of paper might entitle them to £2OOO. £l,OOO WINNER. WANGANUI, August 26. The winner of the £lOOO prize in the "Pot Luck” art union is Mr Ron McCormick, aged about twenty-six years, a single man, who has been employed driving a bulldozer on road construc- ■ lion work in the Taihape district for . over a year.
