WINTER WOOL SALE
DUNEDIN PRICES. BETTER THAN EXPECTED. DUNEDIN, August 25. There was a total' offering of 3170 bales at the winter wool sale held here to-day. There was a good attendance oi overseas buyers, local mill representatives, and fellmongers, and considering the grave international situation, the competition exceeded expectations. It was noticeable that line crutchings were slow selling, and passings for these grades were fiequent. The quality and condition of the crutchings under offer were not up to the standard of last year’s, due 1 to the extreme weather conditions experienced. Crutchings and skirtings comprised the bulk of the catalogue, with some good average lines of fleece. As compared with the northern sales, prices were generally easier for crutchings. An extra super line of four bales of crossbred crutchings (suitable for the American trade) made llid. Any fleece wool forward met with 1 excellent competition and values were Id to 2d better than the April rates. ' The official range of prices is as follows: —- Merino 121 d; halfbred (56/58) llid ' to 12d; halfbred (50/56) lid to 12d; line crossbred lOd to 12d; crossbred 10R1 to 12d; halfbred necks and pieces 7’id to Bid; crossbred necks and pieces 7’d to Sid; locks 4d to lid; Merino crutchings 5Sd to 6id; hal'fbred crutchings (good) 6id to 7id; halfbred crutchings (average) 6d to 7d; halfbred ditto (inferior) 4d to sid; three quarterbred (good) 61d to 71(1; three-quarter-bred (average) 5d to 6id;‘ three-quarterbred (infer- ■ ior) 4d to sd; super crossbred crutchings lOd to Hid; crossbred ditto 9 (good) 8d to 9id.; crossbred (average) 1 6id to 7id. 5 ; .
