HASTINGS, April 18

Severe burns, shock, and head injuries were suffered by R. MacCartney, married, of Taradale, when he came in contact with high power electric lines while painting his house , to-day. She rushed outside to find him hanging from the wires by the hands, and unable to free himself. With great presence of mind, she rushed into the house, and turned off the electric supply at the meter. This reduced the charge, and enabled MacCartney to release his grip; but so severely was he burned ana shocked that he fell head downwards about twelve feet to a concrete paving below. A doctor was summoned, and the victim was rushed to the Napier Hospital, where his condition is reported as serious.
