Interviewed on arrival at Southhampton on October 24, Mr Sunderland said he would like to take the Wigan team to Australia to play such teams as Eastern Suburbs, Canter-! bury-Bankstown, South Sydney, New-j castle, Toowoomba and Ipswich. | A four-cornered compe'tition be-| tween Wigan and two of the best, clubs in Sydney and the top country
team, he declared, would create tremendous interest. “There are many difficulties t 6 be
overcome,” said Mr Sunderland. “First an official invitation is essential andi then it would have to be sanctioned by the English Rugby League. | • According to an English writer, Mri Sunderland’s terms with Wigan are £4OO a year, plus £3 a win, £2 a draw and 10 per cent, of the season’s profits.
