FALL OF WATTLE TREE.

KILLS MAN AND BOY.

. CHRISTCHURCH, November 29. Herbert George Bailey, agpd 14, the younger son of Mr and Mrs G. Bailey of West Eyreton, was fatally injured and Robert, Hutchison, aged ■„ 68, ~was fatally .injured, when a large wattle tree if ell. ;0n them on the farm of Mrs D. Chapman, West Eyreton, about 3.45 p.m. to-day. ...i ' Hutchison,(was unmained, and died later from, his> injuries) and the boy, who were employed on the farm, were walking together near the .tree when,; Without any warning, it fell on them, causing severe internal, injuries to both. There, was no .wind'’’at ‘the time and it is believed that the tree, yvhjch had grown with a lean, had fallen because of its own weight. Yesterday’s heavy rain had softened the ground about the roots, which were torn, away when: the tree fell. The injured persons were taken to the Christchurch Hospital, where Bailey, died, at 8.40 p.m. and Hutchison died this morning.

FARMER’S LEG FRACTURED
