HOKITIKA, November 29.

A Road Service car which left here yesterday afternoon for Arthur’s Pass struck a heavy snowstoriri on the top; of Otira Gorge, and was practically snowed in. It was unable to proceed and had to return to Hokitika, arrive ing about 7 p.m. The inward passengers by the express continued the journey' by train to Hokitika. The secretary reported there were no, serious discrepancies in the tell-tale clock for the period, also that plans! for the new station had been approv-| ed. by Inspector Girling Butcher with some .minor alterations, and he was awaiting receipt of the specifications: to forward them to the Government Loan Board for approval. The super-| interidenf reported only one- fire, a wasty-hquse .in a cottage in Bealey, Street, the damage being £8 10s. There was a false alarm' one night at 11 ( The team competed at Cobden demonstration arid won the aggregate shield. It was gratifying to find the citizens showing care in regard to fire prevention; The vote for 300 ft of new hose was asked for and £5 for Xmas cheer was: soficited. The plarit was in a very satisfactory c6ndition. The Board complimented the team on its sue-! cess and the vote of £5 was granted.' A grant of £2O was made the brigade} to send a team to the demonstration: next year at Wanganui. I At Arahura sale yards yesterday 98, cattle were offered.
