REEFTON NOTES
[Our Own Correspondent.] REEFTON, May 27. The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Reefton Jockey Club took place last, evening, the President (Mr. J. B. Auld) being in the chair. The statement of accounts in connection with the recent race meeting was presented by the Secretary. This showed a loss, and was received and adopted. It was decided not. to have cattle grazing on the racecourse, hut instead to graze a further lot of sheep, and also to lime the whole of the ground. The consideration of other matters concluded the meeting. At the Magistrate's Court, the following cases were yesterday dean with:—John Nicholas-Taylor, for failing to notify the Deputy Registrar ot the disposal" of a motor-vehicle, was [ lined 10s and costs 19s 9d. Sydney Robert Bannan, for driving a motori vehicle without carrying a warrant of its fitness, was fined 10s and costs 10s. Gordon Lockhard Hooper, fodriving a motor-vehicle without a motor-driver’s license, was fined 10s and costs 16s 9d. Arthur Redvers Buller Norris, for driving a motor vehicle without carrying a warrant as t to its fitness, was fined 10s and costs I2s. Transport (Nelson) Ltd., for i operating a heavy motor-vehicle on a class 111 road with a greater loaci than is permitted on a road of that class, was fined £1 and costs 10s Transport (Nelson) Ltd., for operating a heavy motor-vehicle with a loan in excess of that which it was licensed to carry, was fined £1 and costs 10s. James Slattery, being the owner of two cows found wandering at large, which were impounded, was fined 10s and 10s costs. Arthur James Butler, being the owner of one cow found wandering at large, which was impounded, was fined 10s and costs 10s. Norman Leslie Bolitho, for being the owner of one cow found wandering at large, which was impound ed, was fined 10s and costs 10s. William Hobbs (Mr. Morgan), for selling milk which did not comply with the standard prescribed, was fined £5 with costs £1 0s 6d. The Magistrate intimated that in future he would inflict much heavier penalties for this class of offence. Annie Renwick (Mr. Patterson), applied against her husband. Alexander Renwick (Mr. Morgan), for separation, maintenance and i guardianship orders on the grounds o f i persistent cruelty and failure to adequately maintain. After hearing the evidence of both parties, orders were > made as prayed. Judgment, for plaintiff by default was given each of the following cases:—R. Roberts v. Russell Flowers, £29 and costs £4 3s 6d; J. Collins v. P. Taylor, £6 15s lid and costs £1 10s Gel; A. J. Chettle v. John Chandler, £7 13s Od and costs £1 12s . Gel. At the Warden's Court, the following applications were dealt with:—■ Frederick George Thorn, for a residence site license over 2 roods 16 ; nchs. in Block XI, Mawheraiti S.D.— i Granted. Goldwater Mines No Liability, for two Ordinary Prospecting • Licenses, each in respect of 100 acres in Blk. XIII, Waitahu S.D.—Both re- • commended. All other applications . were adjourned.
