The Federal Government is meeting with tremendous opposition with its National Health Insurance Bill which is now before the House of Representatives. The Ministry is being harassed by demands for concessions from all quarters. The opposition comes from the i tedical practitioners, who are demanding an increase in their capitation fee from eleven shillings to at least fourteen shillings. The Prime Minister, Mr J. A. Lyons, has hinted that he intends to accept this challenge by the doctors. The doctors have decided to conduct a plebiscite in order to ascertain whether they will work under the Government plan The British Medical Association forecasts that eighty per cent of the B.M.A. will vote against the Government.

The Labour Party is openly hostile to the Bill. Labour members declare that it does not go far enough.
