EXHIBITION IN JAPAN

WELLINGTON, May 26.
With the object of interesting New Zealand authorities in the international exposition of Japan in 1940, two commissioners, H. Yamawaki and K. Kawaguchi, with a secretary, I. Kaifu, arrived to-day by the Awatea. They say that they come officially to invite the New Zealand Government to participate. Japan is anxious that New Zealand should be represented, with the end in view of mutual trade and fostering goodwill. On being reminded that the New Zealand Exhibition also took place in 1940, Mr Yamawaki gave an assurance that Japan would render any. assistance and co-operation that might be asked of her. He would consult on the matter with the Consul-Gen-eral for Japan in New Zealand, and also represent the position to his Government on his return.
The party pays courtesy calls \on the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet this afternoon and tomorrow. They visit Auckland before leaving for Sydney.
